The Economics of Trucking

Ever say out loud when driving down the road, wow there seems to be a lot of trucks on the road today? Well, it’s not your eyes, it is the over 3.5 million drivers on those roads. The Trucking industry hauled 64% of all freight in the U.S. That is almost 13 Billion Tons! Look around as it would be hard to see something not brought on a truck at some point of the process.

There are over 577,000 registered trucking companies in the U.S with 99.5% of them being 10 or fewer trucks.

Top concerns going into 2025 for trucking companies are:

  1. The Economy

  2. Truck Parking- Over the Road Trucks are always looking for places to park the truck for their layover.

  3. Lawsuit Reform- Ambulance chaser lawyers are always making truck drivers out to be the bad guy.

  4. Insurance Costs- Due to point number 3.

  5. Compensation- To get and keep good drivers- you need to pay them well.

Lastly, we have great diversity in our industry. Most demographics increased in 2024, but we need more women to look at driving a truck!

So, the next time you see that truck on the highway, I hope you realize how important they are to our economy.
